Recent statistics show that many of our youth are struggling academically and will need to sharpen their skills if we expect them to compete in an ever-changing and diverse workforce. The following data illustrates the critical effect literacy has on the lives of our youth and society at large:

• 1/3 of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives.
• 80% of families did not buy or read a book last year.
• Each day in the US, people spend 4 hours watching TV, 3 hours listening to the radio and 14 minutes reading magazines.

We know that reading is important in keeping the mind sharp, to further our learning and development, etc., but did you know that there is a direct correlation to our youth’s reading skills and success?

• Students who reported having all four types of reading materials (books, magazines, newspapers, encyclopedias) in their home scored, on average, higher on tests than those who reported having fewer reading materials.
• The educational careers of 25 to 40 percent of American children are imperiled because they don't read well enough, quickly enough, or easily enough.
• To participate fully in society and the workplace in 2020, citizens will need powerful literacy abilities that until now have been achieved by only a small percentage of the population.

Our youth are the community's most vital asset and it is our job to protect them! We’ve got to transform our youth to tap into their FULL potential. BUT we cannot only rely on the school systems to accomplish this – it takes a village! We need a paradigm shift – a significant step change – in the programs, services, and support systems we are providing to our youth. The Butterfly Springs tutoring and mentoring program is designed to do just that!

Butterfly Springs, LLC is a personal and professional (professional includes academic) development business and one area of focus for 2008-2009 is to grow a comprehensive tutoring and mentoring program to serve the YOUTH of our community. The program will be implemented this fall (2008) and it will serve all metro areas of the Twin Cities!! Our focus will be MATH, SCIENCE, and READING as this is where there is significant need in the community.

We are seeking the following students:

• 1. K-12th grade.
• 2. At all academic achievement levels.
• 3. Want to know how to study, what it takes to get good grades, what it takes to succeed in school and beyond and how to get the next level!

The founder has a proven track record of success and these principals will be implemented throughout the program. It is our passion to develop the student to achieve meaningful success at their current grade level and to prepare them for meaningful success at the next level. It's not just "tutoring as usual" in that Butterfly Springs will show your child how to: .. How to read and remember .. How to organize your studying .. How to take tests .. How to use your library .. How to write better papers .. How to excel in class .. How to network .. How to use your tutor / mentor .. More!
